Scoil Naomh Fursa is situated 5km west of Headford on the north-eastern shores of Lough Corrib in north Co. Galway. The school is directly across from St. Mary's church in Claran. 

About Us

We are a seven-teacher mixed school. We have five mainstream class teachers and two Special Education Teachers.

School hours are from 8.50a.m. to 2.30p.m for 1st to 6th Classes and from 8.50a.m. to 1.30p.m for Infant classes. 

Parents wishing to enrol their children in the school can do so by contacting the school and completing an enrolment form. Information meetings are usually held for parents of new entrants in February each year.

There is full day-care on site catering for children from 2 years and 8 months to 16 years. Coill na nÓg Claran Community Childcare is open from 7:45am until 6pm 51 weeks per year. 

An ASD Special Class will open in September 2024. 

Facilities

Our school is full of facilities including
  • Modern, fully equipped classrooms to meet current curriculum demands.
  • Two Special Education Teaching rooms.
  • A large hall and stage for P.E., Drama, school concerts, assemblies and performances.
  • A large green field for play and games. 
  • A lined tarmac soccer pitch.
  • A lined tarmac basketball court.
  • A "Go Play" playground.
  • An AstroTurf all weather pitch.
  • School gardens. 
  • A woodland area (planted by the senior pupils in 1993).
On the school premises we also have:
  • Coill na nÓg – Claran Community Childcare operates a Full Day Care Service catering for children from 2 years and 8 months to 16 years. This service is open for 51 weeks. Coill na nÓg Pre-School operates the ECCE Scheme for 38 weeks per year.  
  • The NCS and ECCE schemes are available to parents. 
  • Coill na nÓg Breakfast Club opens at 7:45am each morning. The childcare service remains open until 6pm daily catering for childcare needs for families in the area. Hot meals and snacks are provided from the kitchen on site. 

Board of Management 

Our school is managed by a Board of Management and is made up of eight people. Our current Board of Management is as follows;
